Familiar Faces

Already you can smell fall in the air, even though it is still August. Soon the leaves will turn, the sweaters will appear, the school bells will ring, and we will return from Maine or the Cape or some other place to begin again the routines of our lives.

Early this past Sunday morning, I stopped outside the Church and sat for a moment near our Memorial Garden. It was a few minutes before anyone else had arrived, even Fred, and I thought about the faces of those friends who were laid to rest in that garden, and I thought about your faces coming back from the summer and beginning again our Church life together; worship, Sunday School, meetings, pot-luck suppers, outreach; all the activities that make us a community – the Body of Christ.

I realized how glad I will be to see you again, your familiar faces, to see the children who have grown over the summer, to feel the community of Epiphany back together again. So as I sat there I whispered God I love you, love you, love you. Then I thought of the people I love, I put their names in place of God – Liza, I love you. Sam, I love you. Mary, I love you. Martha, I love you. David, I love you. Pam, I love you. Everyone of you.

It was just the same! Well, not quite the same, because God is God and we are not. But if it were not for all of you, I would not know who God was, I could not cry to God or love God. So I said the names out loud, but only God could hear me, or maybe through God and in God you could hear too. And I whispered a prayer to God to keep all of you safe and bring us back together again.

Now is the Time

If you have been considering joining the choirs at The Parish of the Epiphany, this is the moment! Starting September 7, the Junior Choir will be rehearsing Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 and the Adult Choir from 7:45-9:30, in the Old Parish Hall. Epiphany’s Genesis singers will be starting soon, although their rehearsal time has yet to be determined.

Singing in the choir  is a joyous time, giving your gifts to the congregation and each other, and receiving even more in return -

Epiphany Website

Have you seen the revised Epiphany website; www.3crowns.org?If you have any questions about church activities this is the place to go.  Need to know when you are delivering flowers, or serving as lector or usher? Who will be preaching on Sunday? How to send an email to Rev. Trache? What is the genesis group doing next?  All the answers can be found at www.3crowns.org.

This is your best source for current parish information.  This newsletter will be published on the website every Tuesday, so even if you can’t get it by email you can see it on the website and get the information faster than if you wait for a printed copy in the mail.

Prayer Circle

Most parishes have a  group of persons who pray in their homes for members and friends who have asked for prayers.  Currently, at Epiphany, we have 23 persons who have joined this ministry of prayer.  Anyone who might be interested in being a part of our Prayer Circle can see Rev. Nelson for more information.  It is a good way to develop a regular practice of prayer.

Rally Day

September 10 is Rally Day at Epiphany!

We welcome back everyone from summer vacation.  Services will be at 8:00am and 10:00am—with a cookout to follow the second service.

Epiphany will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages. Please be so kind as to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share. Come catch up with friends and meet new ones who have recently joined our family.

There will also be Sunday School registration after the 10:00 service, when parents can enroll their children in classes, meet the teachers, and learn about this year’s program.  There will be a new program starting this year for high school students so please register them at Rally Day too.

Welcome our new DCE

Kathleen Kenny has been hired as Epiphany’s new Director of Christian Education.  She will oversee the Children's Sunday School Program and she is joining us as classes are about to start so please help her by introducing yourself and supporting her ministry.
