ECM Convocation

On Saturday, October 7 the Episcopal City Mission is holding its 2006 Advocacy Convocation  at St. Stephen’s Church in Lynn from

9:00—4:00.  Issues to be addressed are the growing wealth divide, immigration reform, and building a strong social justice team in a parish.

Anyone interested in attending should speak to Roger Nelson.

Saturday/Sunday Bread Needs Volunteers

Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread (SSB) is a program that serves free hot meals to people in need every Saturday and Sunday at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 35 Bowdoin Street in Boston. SSB’s mission is to provide these healthy meals in a safe and inviting atmosphere, free from society’s prejudices and judgments. SSB only asks that those served, regardless of their situation, join us in perpetuating an environment free of racial, cultural and religious stereotypes.

SSB is an interfaith, interdenominational, interracial, activity made up of people concerned with the hungry in the Boston area. Over the course of its 20-plus years, Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread has served more than 300,000 guests. Those who partake are

served in a dining room setting, eight guests to a table. The meals are hot and nutritious and are prepared fresh on site in the hours before the guests arrive, then served to the tables by volunteers.

How It Works:
Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread is an entirely volunteer organization. There are no paid employees. Instead, the work is all done by volunteers from 40 organizations all over the Boston area – including churches, temples, college and university groups, fraternal organizations, businesses, etc. -- who give freely of their time, labor and funds.

Each Saturday and Sunday, teams of five people from three or four member organizations meet at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The work includes food preparation, table setup, meal service and cleanup.

Epiphany members have been faithfully volunteering on the second Saturday of the month at SSB.  We are always seeking new volunteers.  Please contact Mary Provo at 781-245-1949 if you would like to volunteer for any or all of the following dates:

October 7th

November 11th

December 9th

Will leave from Epiphany at 12:00 and return to the Church at 5:00.
