confirmation

As its name suggests, Confirmation is an opportunity for Christians of all ages to confirm the promises they made, or that were made for them, at Baptism. In this sacramental rite, individuals (generally 14 and up) make a mature, public affirmation of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.

Candidates for Confirmation are asked to complete a process of instruction prior to receiving this sacramental rite.

Confirmation and Reception into the Episcopal Church takes place each year sometime during the Easter season, typically in May. Adults may prepare for this sacramental rite by attending a "Foundations" course and/or by speaking with the clergy. Young people in high school prepare by attending Confirmation classes in the winter and spring which include class sessions, meetings with a mentor as well as clergy, retreat opportunities and attendance at key church events.
