We serve: Saturday's/Sunday's Bread

Over the course of its 25 years, Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread has served more than 300,000 guests.

Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread (SSB) is a program that serves free hot meals to people in need in Boston every Saturday and Sunday at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 35 Bowdoin Street, Boston. The organization's mission is to provide these healthy meals in a safe and inviting atmosphere, free from Society’s prejudices and judgments.

Saturday’s/Sunday’s Bread is an entirely volunteer organization. There are no paid employees. Instead, the work is all done by volunteers from 40 organizations from all over the Boston area – churches, temples, college and university groups, fraternal organizations, businesses, etc. -- who give freely of their time, labor and funds. Except for bread and dessert donations, such as from Paneras, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and others, food is purchased through the Greater Boston Food Bank and from commercial suppliers.

Epiphany has, for over 20 years, provided teams of volunteers. Members of the Epiphany team have faithfully served as “Kitchen Executive” and “Maitre D’”, as cooks and kitchen helpers, dining room servers, bread pickup and delivery runners, door keepers, dishwashers, setup and cleanup crew, and on the SSB Board of Directors.  Epiphany volunteers carpool into Boston the 2nd Saturday afternoon of every month from noon - 4:30.  Contact Mary Provo if you would like to join this team of Epiphany volunteers.

Epiphany parishioners have also generously donated funds used to buy food and equipment and Epiphany’s youth have graciously donated Christmas goodies, Valentine cookies, and little Easter baskets that have brightened the day for and provided cheer and love to grateful guests.
