We serve: El Hogar - honduras

The mission of El Hogar Projects is to provide a loving home and education in a Christian environment for abandoned, orphaned and hopelessly poor children, enabling them to fulfill their ultimate potential as productive human beings in Honduras.
El Hogar Mission Team News
The Parish of the Epiphany has been in close relationship with El Hogar for many years. Epiphany has been sending mission teams to El Hogar for almost ten years – teams of both teens and adults. Epiphany has sponsored a child for nearly ten years and currently sponsors three young children, a boy, Jorge Francisco Velasquez Sagastume, and two girls, Ana Raquel Varela Funez and Delma Desideria Gamez. Among the parishioners of Epiphany, there are a total of 25 sponsors of El Hogar children. Since 2001, Epiphany has been in a partnership with El Hogar, providing office space for their North American office, El Hogar Ministries. A parishioner of Epiphany serves as the Executive Director for El Hogar Ministries and another parishioner serves as Treasurer. We remain dedicated to this important mission and continuously look for new ways to involve parishioners.
El Hogar provides a loving home and an education for impoverished and abandoned children in Honduras, and is an oasis in a country locked in a cycle of desperate poverty and hopelessness. At El Hogar, the children receive a high quality education, and a technical trade which makes them employable in their country. They learn love, respect, and a sense of their own ability to break this cycle of poverty and despair, not just for themselves, but for their families, communities and country.
Through a program of sponsorship that encourages personal relationships with the children, the children learn the powerful effect of compassion and the spirit of caring and generosity. They are transformed, not only by the food and shelter they receive, but by being witness to this kind of love and human kindness. Coming from backgrounds that do not always offer hope and kindness, these children are deeply moved by the true compassion and respect they experience through being part of El Hogar. Knowing that someone cares builds self-respect, love and hope in these children. To see them and interact with them is to be in the presence of this hope and love; they are not the only ones transformed!
The North American office of El Hogar Ministries is located at The Parish of the Epiphany. Liz Kinchen is the Executive Director in North America for El Hogar Ministries, a 501(c)2 organization which directly supports El Hogar Projects in Honduras, through communication, networking and fundraising.
